After the success of the 2022-2023 edition, Lunch Talks @ GDI -Torino returns for autumn 2023. Talking about Art. Great artists, great exhibitions, great themes, a new series of meetings curated by Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea at Gallerie d’Italia - Torino.
Lunch Talks @ GDI - Torino. Talking about Art. Great artists, great exhibitions, great themes offers the perfect opportunity to approach contemporary art. With a special focus on photography, its birth and evolution, and the relationship that links it inseparably to other art forms, the themes addressed during this edition of Lunch Talks are an opportunity to get to know the works of some of the most important contemporary artists, to examine the epoch-making exhibitions that have redefined the concept of art and to explore the thematic issues animating the contemporary cultural debate.
The meetings are held by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, Director of Castello di Rivoli, Marcella Beccaria, Deputy Director, Head Curator and Curator of the Collections, and Marianna Vecellio, Curator, who will be taking the audience on a fascinating journey through today’s art, sharing their first-hand experience and ongoing research.
Lunch Talks offer a new kind of lunch break. The meetings will be held in the Arena at Gallerie d’Italia - Torino, in a relaxed and informal setting. Participants will receive a lunch box created by Costardi Bros and will be able to complete their experience with a visit to the exhibitions currently on display at Gallerie d’Italia - Torino.
The programme is curated by Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea in collaboration with Gallerie d’Italia- Torino.

Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, Lee Miller and Artists during wartime
This lunch talk looks at the photographs taken by Lee Miller during the Second World War and presents other artists who have experienced wartime situations and given photographic accounts of war.

Marcella Beccaria, Otobong Nkanga
This meeting explores the art of Otobong Nkanga and how the artist addresses important issues such as the exploitation of natural resources and the distance which, in many cases, separates human beings from their host planet.

This event is dedicated to Roman artist and intellectual Fabio Mauri and explores his relationship with film and the use and reuse of photos and films to tell the story and memory of human beings.

Atlantic Thoughts on choreographies of the impossible, 35th edition of the São Paolo Biennial, curated by Diane Lima, Grada Kilomba, Hélio Menezes and Manuel Borja-Villel and currently in progress. The history and development of decolonial viewpoints from Okwui Enwezor to the present day.

This lunch talk addresses the use of photography in Arte Povera, Conceptual Art and Land Art between the Sxties and Seventies.
