“PHOTOGRAPHY - TWO CENTURIES OF HISTORY AND IMAGES”
WITH WALTER GUADAGNINI, FRANCESCO JODICE AND GIULIA ZONCA
The great story of global photography from its origins to the present day
Photography has been one of the main languages of modernity and, since the digital revolution, has also become the most widely used in everyday, private and public communication. At the same time, it is one of the arts that marked the 19th and 20th centuries, assuming, in the 21st, an increasingly central role in the panorama of contemporary creation, in every part of the world, within every social and cultural system.
This volume reveals the infinite faces of photography and is also a fascinating story: three striking visual atlases mark the rhythm "backwards" - from Trevor Paglen's most recent experiments with Artificial Intelligence to the first image captured by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce two centuries ago - interspersing the sixteen illustrated chapters that set out the history of this discipline with a narrative style that is as accessible as it is precise, addressing experts in the field but above all amateurs and enthusiasts of the photographic tool.

“OTHER VIEWS”
WITH SILVIA CAMPORESI AND LISA PAROLA – INTRODUCED BY MAURA PICCIAU
It is hard for a photographer to portray a place of death while drawing a story with positive overtones: this is the case of the Cappella Espiatoria in Monza, an imposing monument that stands on the spot where King Umberto I of Savoy was killed. With her search for the good king, Silvia Camporesi has risen to the challenge, inviting us to learn more about a controversial work worthy of being seen through new eyes. Innovative art historian Lisa Parola insightfully addresses the contradictory nature of the celebratory chapel.

“OTHER VIEWS”
WITH ANTONIO BIASIUCCI, MAURO ZANCHI AND STEFANO DE MATTEIS
Presentation of Antonio Biasucci's surprising and sometimes disturbing work in a comparison between the deposits of the Museo delle Civiltà in Rome and the area of prehistoric human bones that the photographer wanted to expose to atmospheric skies from the museum windows, waiting for hours to get the right shot. From the first meeting with the palaeontologist, who placed a human skull in his hand, to the final idea; skulls, bones and some heads with real hair wigs from Italian regional costumes. At the end of the realisation of the photographic work, Biasucci's words: "I felt myself permeated by this story…".
A special project accompanied by texts by distinguished anthropologist Stefano De Matteis and critical analysis by Mauro Zanchi.
TUESDAY 5 DECEMBER 2023
“OTHER VIEWS”
WITH OLIVO BARBIERI AND CORRADO BENIGNI
With Alfabeto incompiuto, Olivo Barbieri explored Venosa, the city of Horace and of the Unfinished Basilica, in a luminous, rural Southern Italy the still tangible farming tradition of which is described in authentic words. Venosa is a connective tissue of history that comes to us from the distant past: Barbieri's intense shots capture its originality.
TUESDAY 12 DECEMBER 2023
“OTHER VIEWS”
WITH PAOLA DE PIETRI, MARCELLO FOIS AND ANTONELLO FRONGIA
In Sulle tue cime di granito (On Your Granite Peaks) Paola De Pietri, a photographer known for her portrayal of the landscape, confronts the island of Caprera, in the Maddalena archipelago, a living natural environment with strong contrasts, where Giuseppe Garibaldi spent 25 years devoting himself to an active and serene life.
Marcello Fois delivers a delicate and autobiographical text on his first visit to Garibaldi's museum, as a child, with his father.
Antonello Frongia, an esteemed photography critic, freely examines Paola De Pietri's proposal.
