#INSIDE: "MIGRATIONS IN GEOPOLITICS”
With Dario Fabbri -Geopolitical Analyst, Editor-in-chief of Domino

The approach to migration varies with the goals that a specific community sets itself. From integration to assimilation, from economism to power. A decisive parameter for understanding where the world is going.

Wednesday 22 February 2023
#INSIDE: "VISAGES VILLAGES"
by and with JR and Agnès Varda

Screening of the Oscar-nominated documentary which reinvents the road movie by way of the encounter between Agnès Varda and JR, united by a strong passion for adventure.  An important journey through rural France from the north of Paris to the port of Le Havre to get to hear the stories of ordinary people, during which an unusual friendship develops between the two protagonists.

Villages, small towns and factories in a France made up of forgotten faces and communities, creating a moving portrait; in each place visited, JR creates gigantic black and white portraits of the inhabitants that cover houses, barns, shop fronts, every free surface. In doing so, they make the subjects great. Not superhero great, but human great, like the flesh and blood people that they are.

# INSIDE - ARTIVISM

For the duration of the solo exhibition dedicated to JR, the Gallerie Torino space becomes a place for discussion and education on the theme of URBAN ART in its broadest concept.
The public programme #INSIDE envisages three moments of discussion and exchange revolving around street and urban art and its role and weight in the social field and that of contemporary arts.
JR's artistic activity triggers an analysis of the concept of ARTIVISM (and of the recent “Artivism” theorised by Professor Vincenzo Trione in the book published by Einaudi, nominated by ArtTribune as book of the year in the Best of 2022 classification), which becomes the path and theme of the meetings.

NARRATORS:

MATTEO CACCIA
Author, radio presenter and, above all, storyteller and narrator of change

CRISTINA GIOPP AKA THE GIRL IN THE GALLERY
An art historian, she began talking about art through her own IG channel, conveying shape and personality to every critical reading

#INSIDE: "ARTIVISM OR THE SOCIAL NATURE OF STREET ART"
with MATTEO CACCIA - ALICE PASQUINI

Matteo Caccia talks about the signs of “tattooed cities” with Alice Pasquini

ALICE PASQUINI
Roman and a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, her works have been reviewed by newspapers such as The International and The New York Times.
Considered a leading female figure in the panorama of street art, active and operational at international level, over the course of her career she has created murals for the streets of several Italian and foreign cities such as: Marseilles, Paris, Amsterdam, London, Berlin, Oslo, New York, Buenos Aires, Yogyakarta, Naples, Rome and Taranto.
Street artist, painter, illustrator and set designer, she has developed different lines of research over time, from the narration of female vitality to installations with the use of unusual materials. In 2013 she created a series of works for the Capitoline Museums in Rome, some of which can be seen in Piazza del Campidoglio.
Since April 2016, she has been artistic director of the CVTà Street Fest in Civitacampomarano, a festival of contextual art and street art.

Wednesday 12 April 2023
#INSIDE: "ARTIVISM OR NARRATING THE PRESENT"
with MATTEO CACCIA - TVBOY

Matteo Caccia talks to TVBOY about the political and social power of the messages that appear in the “tattooed cities”.

TVBOY (Salvatore Benintende)

Pseudonym of Salvatore Benintende, born in Palermo in 1980, TVBOY is one of the leading exponents of the Italian NeoPop movement, always launching strong and provocative messages with his art: his works speak to the general public as much as to elite collectors and his satirical representations do nothing to spare public figures and politicians.
After his debut on the urban art scene in 1996 under the pseudonym “Crasto”, between 2003 and 2004 TVBOY conquered the walls of the major Italian and international cities.
He has been living in Barcelona since 2005 where, with his own art studio, he has consolidated his status as an icon of international Pop Art and Street Art, so much so that many experts call him “the Italian Banksy”.
From his first urban interventions - the famous “kisses” between Salvini and Di Maio, Pope Francis and Donald Trump, Ronaldo and Messi, José Mourinho and Pep Guardiola to name but a few - to shows at major galleries and museums, TVBOY is now one of the most well-known and best-loved Italian street artists, participating in very interesting solo and group shows all over the world, as well as collaborations with GreenPeace, OpenArms, Emergency and CESVI, actively engaged in social activities and the protection of human rights.
In 2020 he won the award for the best ever cover of SportWeek and, in 2021, TVBOY's first solo museum exhibition at Mudec in Milan was a huge success with both public and critics.

#INSIDE - IL POST

The Post srl for Gallerie d'Italia has developed a project entitled The migrations we don't know, explained thoroughly, conceived to coincide with JR - Déplacé-e-s as part of the INSIDE series of meetings. Three meetings to tell the stories of three areas of the world and to analyse their human flows, the migratory routes, to thoroughly explain, in the style of Il Post, what human movements are like, making them graphically visible by presenting a picture of the situation from a cultural, social, human point of view. Real Reflections on paper. Programme:

Wednesday 05 April 2023 - SOLD OUT
#INSIDE: "THE UNITED STATES, THE WALL AND THE ‘CARAVANS’"
with LUCA MISCULIN and FRANCESCO COSTA and with the participation of LUCA SOFRI

Every year hundreds of thousands of people travel over land to attempt entry into the United States, a country that, for years, has failed to implement a comprehensive immigration reform.
An account of American politics and the stories of broken families.

Wednesday 19 April 2023 - SOLD OUT
#INSIDE: "MOST AFRICAN MIGRANTS ARE NOT TRYING TO REACH EUROPE"
with LUCA MISCULIN and GIOVANNI CARBONE

“Most African migrants do not try to get to Europe” but stay in Africa, in the most densely populated metropolises of Egypt, South Africa and Nigeria. In a recent survey, 80% of Africans said they did not want to leave their home continent.  But even these internal flows lead to discrimination and suffering for migrants.

LUCA MISCULIN
Milanese journalist who has been writing for “Il Post” since 2013, mainly about Europe and migration. He has also worked with Grazia, Il Foglio, and l’Ultimo Uomo.  Since the summer of 2018 he has been head of Konrad, the section of Il Post that focuses on Europe and all the corresponding products: newsletters, podcasts and articles.

Wednesday 10 May 2023
#INSIDE: "THE SRI LANKA MODEL" - SOLD OUT
with LUCA MISCULIN and NADEESHA UYANGODA and with the participation of LUCA SOFRI

Sri Lanka, a country with a very high rate of emigration, from which hundreds of thousands of people fled last year due to an economic crisis that the government is unable to solve.

Watch the live stream.

# INSIDE - with LEONARDO CAFFO

Wednesday 8 March 2023
#INSIDE: "MIGRATING. A PHILOSOPHY OF LAMPEDUSA"
with LEONARDO CAFFO

Leonardo Caffo (Catania, 1988) is a philosopher, writer, editor and pundit. His research focuses on Animal Studies and contemporary posthuman anti-speciesism.
“Exercise. Imagine you are one of the hundreds of youngsters who arrive by boat every day in Lampedusa. Imagine it and treasure it, experience it: give yourself a chance to identify with them. Not just for a single day, but for quite some time: change your relationship with food, with water, with freedom of movement.”
Leonardo Caffo conceptualizes the meeting with reference to the island as an open place, as the mirage of every traveller scanning the horizon, arriving, in the end, at the realisation that the only possible salvation for all is to conceive “life as migration”.

Wednesday 3 May 2023
#INSIDE: "MIGRATING. AN ANTHROPOLOGY OF THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD"
with LEONARDO CAFFO - FRANCO LA CECLA

Franco La Cecla (Palermo, 1950), cultural anthropologist and architect, has explored the theme of the social impact of architecture, investigating models of spatial organisation and the interactive dynamics they generate.
What does it mean to build an anthropology of migration?
What are the routes through which cultures mingle today and what can anthropology tell us to make us fully understand the hybridisations that cultural mergers generate in our metropolises, accelerating conflicting moralities?
The need to welcome, the impossibility of levelling ethical stories.

Wednesday 24 May 2023
“TEACHING GENDER EQUALITY - for a more inclusive society”
with ANDREA COLAMEDICI AND MAURA GANCITANO

Gender stereotypes and their impact on our society.
Leonardo Caffo, Andrea Colamedici and Maura Gancitano discuss the importance of teaching equality and overcoming discrimination, and of working together to create a more equal and inclusive society. Attention will be drawn to the role of gender stereotypes and their deconstruction in popular culture and the media: gender roles as represented in mythology, films and television series, and how these stereotypes can influence the way we think and behave.

Wednesday 31 May 2023
INSIDE: "JR TALK"
with JR

On Wednesday 31 May, at the Gallerie d'Italia - Turin, Intesa Sanpaolo is holding a talk and an autograph session with JR to celebrate the JR "Déplacé·e·s" exhibition. This is the first solo exhibition in Italy by the French artist internationally famous for his projects combining photography, public art and social commitment; it was developed by Intesa Sanpaolo in collaboration with the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and curated by Arturo Galansino.

JR will be meeting visitors from 15:00 to 16:00 to sign copies of the book of his exhibition published by Edizioni Gallerie d'Italia | Skira and available in Italian, French and English.

This will be followed, from 16:30 to 17:30, by a talk by the artist on the current exhibition, his projects around the world and his art, during which he will answer questions from the audience. Admission is free of charge, to attend the event book at: torino@gallerieditalia.com

Wednesday 7 June 2023
#INSIDE: "MY WOMEN"
with SABA ANGLANA

Saba Anglana, singer-songwriter, actress and author, accompanied by the notes of Fabio Barovero, in a performance that weaves words and music, tales of migration and stories of women who, generation after generation, have inspired her life. Women with a generative role: the seed from which ties, traditions and stories grow.

Event organised in collaboration with Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and Fondazione Circolo dei lettori.

Wednesday 14 june 2023
#INSIDE: MEMORIES
with TAREKE BRHANE and CRISTINA CATTANEO

Tareke Brhane is the chairman of the 3 October Committee, founded following the tragedy in Lampedusa on 3 October 2013. Cristina Cattaneo is the director of LABANOF (Laboratory of Forensic Anthropology and Odontology), which has been working for years on the identification of migrants who have died in the Mediterranean, and author of the book “Naufraghi senza volto: dare un nome alle vittime del Mediterraneo” (Faceless Shipwreck Victims: naming the victims of the Mediterranean). Together, moderated by journalist Alessandro Rocca, they will take us on a journey dedicated to the memory of the victims. Naming the people who have died in the Mediterranean is not only an act of justice and respect for their loss of life, but also a way to restore their dignity and allow their families to grieve. The meeting will be an opportunity to reflect on the importance of memory in individual lives, but also in society, to prevent future tragedies and promote social cohesion.

Event organised in collaboration with Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and Fondazione Circolo dei lettori.
