The mystic numbers of Christmas

,

Date: Thursday 19 December 2024
Time: 6 - 7 p.m.
Format: meeting
Speakers: Giovanni Morale - Deputy Director Gallerie d'Italia - Milan

The opportunity to contemplate two extraordinary motherhoods such as the Madonna and Child by Orazio Gentileschi and the Madonna of the Straw, one of the masterpieces of Van Dyck's religious production, specifically during the Christmas festivities, offers inspiration to reflect through art on the mystery of the Incarnation. The meaning and strong symbolism of the Christmas calendar will be discussed through the suggestions of great works of art. Why does Epiphany fall on the 6th of January? Have you ever wondered why Candlemas is celebrated on the 2nd of February, not forgetting New Year and the Marian festivities? A meeting to gain some insights into the meaning of Time, which Art overcomes through its eternal language.
