Gallerie d'Italia - Torino
From the 13th of June to the 31st of August 2024
From 13 June to 31 August 2024, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, when the video of Museo Egizio about Egyptian landscapes will be shown, the entrance to the sala immersiva will be free.
Photography and video art meet archaeology and ancient Egypt. The venue is in Turin at the Gallerie d'Italia and the event is Paesaggi/Landscapes (13 June - 31 August 2024), a cultural project conceived by the Egyptian Museum in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo and Gallerie d'Italia as part of a three-year agreement. which also includes initiatives for the development and promotion of culture and art. Intesa Sanpaolo is working alongside the Fondazione Museo delle Antichità Egizie in an ambitious project for the architectural transformation of the Museum and the renovation of the layout of the rooms housing the large-scale statuary and, in particular, the Gallery of Kings.
From June 13 to August 31, 2024, Gallerie d’Italia – Turin will feature an immersive installation, accessible for free, and a series of open-access dialogues bringing together photographers, artists, and Egyptologists. The central theme of the initiative is the dichotomy between real and imaginary landscapes in archaeological and photographic research.
Every morning, Gallerie d'Italia – Turin will host a video representing a sort of stream of consciousness in images and sounds, through which the Museo Egizio explores the limits and fragility of historical and landscape reconstructions. Visitors will be virtually transported from the center of Turin to Egypt, into distant atmospheres both in time and geography, to reflect on the new frontiers of archaeology through a multidisciplinary and interactive approach.
Drone footage and modern technologies, produced in Egypt by Robin Studio in collaboration with the Museo Egizio and curated by 8 Egyptologists, will offer a visual translation of archaeologists' multidisciplinary research and reflections on artifacts, their spatio-temporal connections, and the landscape, in a kind of journey backward from modern Egypt to fragments of memory, archaeological remnants, and their interpretations.
Admission to the sala immersiva of the Gallerie d'Italia in Turin will be free for the entire run of the collaboration, from 13 June to 31 August 2024.
Furthermore, "Paesaggi/Landscapes" will feature a series of 4 dialogues between photographers, video artists, and Egyptologists from June 19 to July 10:
