Gallerie d’Italia - Turino presents a major exhibition on one of the biggest names on the international photography panorama, Paolo Pellegrin. This unique exhibition is the result of a special commission by Intesa Sanpaolo. The Bank asked the photographer to provide his take, in images, on one of the most important issues facing the modern world: the relationship between man and the natural environment. A project on which the photographer worked for over a year, visiting different parts of the world in search of the traces and the four elements - earth, water, wind and fire - which mankind has studied since the dawn of time, giving them a spiritual value that goes well beyond scientific understanding.
Pellegrin therefore immersed himself in nature in its different forms, identifying its “fragile wonder” - the title of the exhibition and the entire project - as one of its primary and constant characteristics. He sought out and photographed nature at its most sublime, the places and circumstances in which nature is extreme in its power and presence, a tremendous visual and emotional excess that both intrigues and frightens, that forces man to reflect on his role in the world and his relationship with the environment.
Aside from the topicality of the environmental question, Pellegrin’s long journey across the continents translates into a sequence of incredibly powerful and evocative images. Whether they depict the eruption of a volcano or a giant iceberg, sand dunes in the desert or tropical vegetation, a flock of birds or a group of saguaros, Pellegrin transforms his images into fragments, often unrecognisable and therefore even more fascinating, of a single vision in which photography is not limited to documenting specific places and events but becomes a tool for reinventing the world.
The exhibition consists of never-before-seen images, often presented in the form of installations, which transform the space of Gallerie d’Italia in Turin into a show, not just a display.
To mark the Paolo Pellegrin exhibition "Fragile Wonder. A Journey through changing nature", the #INSIDE programme was presented with a cycle of meetings on the topic of environmental and social sustainability.
