Luca Locatelli is a photographer and filmmaker who focuses on the relationships between people, science, technology and the environment. His projects are realised in collaboration with journalists, environmentalists and scientists to contextualise his research further.

Deeply rooted in documentary production, his research has for more than a decade focused on exploring plausible solutions to the climate crisis of the 21st century. The aim of his work is to contribute to an open discussion about our future on the planet.

Since 2004 he has been a founding member of an NGO that is helping to protect 600,000 hectares of rainforest in the Amazon 

Locatelli is a National Geographic photographer and a regular contributor to international press, including The New York Times, Time and The New Yorker. 

His work has been recognised and awarded various prizes, including:

• Aftermath Grant Winner, 2014;
• Nannes Prize, 2017; 
• American Photography Winners, 2018; 
• World Press Photo, 2018 and 2020; 
• World Photography Organization, 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022; 
• Leica Oskar Barnack Award, 2020.
  
   

His work has been exhibited and presented in various venues including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Shanghai Center of Photography, Somerset House in London, Les Rencontres d’Arles and Visa pour I’Image.

From 21 September 2023 to 18 February 2024, Gallerie d'Italia in Turin hosted the exhibition Luca Locatelli. The Circle.
