"Vortici. Alexi Worth in dialogo con la ceramica antica" exhibition in Naples

The Gallerie d'Italia in Naples, from 3 April to 5 July 2026, present the exhibition “Vortici. Alexi Worth in dialogo con la ceramica", curated by Silvia Gaspardo Moro and Richard Neer: an unprecedented exchange between the Attic and Magna Graecia pottery from the Intesa Sanpaolo Collection and the contemporary art of American artist Alexi Worth. 

Nine paintings by Alexi Worth, exhibiting his work in Italy for the first time, share the galleries of the Gallerie d’Italia with three krater vases and one hydria from the Caputi Collection, a historic 19^th century archaeological collection that is now part of Intesa Sanpaolo's artistic heritage, selected by Richard Neer, Professor of Art History at the University of Chicago, in a reflection spanning history on the theme of the symposium and the rituals of drinking.

Alexi Worth presents images “crafted by the mind and the hand”.  With a distinctly precise and concise style, Worth presents enigmatic reinterpretations of ordinary things: most recently, wine glasses, hands and leaves. Featuring subtly unusual surfaces and perspectives, Worth’s art stands out for its simplicity, suggesting an effort to restore the contemplative power of abstraction to figurative art.

Alexi Worth (New York, 1968) is a New York-based artist whose work explores what it means, in our hyper-saturated digital environment, for images to be “conceived in the mind and crafted by hand". In his particular, precise and concise style, Worth presents enigmatic reinterpretations of everyday objects: including wine glasses, doors, hands and leaves. Characterised by unusual surfaces and observed from unusual angles, Worth’s art stands out from much of recent figurative art for its essentiality and simplicity, suggesting an attempt to restore the contemplative power of abstraction to figurative art.

Worth has received awards from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Tiffany Foundation and the New England Foundation for the Arts, and is represented by the DC Moore gallery in New York. Besides being a painter, Worth is a well-known art critic and has reviewed exhibitions for “The New Yorker”, “Artforum”, “T magazine”, “Art in America”, “ARTnews” and other magazines. He has written catalogue entries for artists such as Jasper Johns, Carroll Dunham, Jackie Saccoccio and Jim Nutt.
