On 2 December 2023, the centenary of the birth of Maria Callas was celebrated. For the occasion, the Gallerie d'Italia in Milan organized an exhibition dedicated to the great soprano, exhibiting 91 original prints that portray her on public and private occasions - in the chronological arc from 1954 to 1970 - during the most important years of her career. The photographs come from the Intesa Sanpaolo Publifoto Archive, many of which are unpublished or never exhibited, favouring a typology of images typical of a photojournalistic agency.
Following the recognized quality of the exhibition and the success of critics and public, the Italian Institute of Culture in Paris has asked to repropose the exhibition in its entirety at the Parisian headquarters.

Publifoto was the most important Italian photojournalistic agency of the 20th century, founded in Milan in 1937 by Vincenzo Carrese.

To celebrate Maria Callas, on display some valuable vintage prints, created not only by the agency's photographers, but also by national and international artists.

All photographs on display were catalogued and digitalized by Historical Archives and are available for free consultation on the website Archivio Storico di Intesa Sanpaolo.
