Palazzo Marino in Music meets Gallerie d’Italia

,

As part of the exhibition The genius of Milan. Crossroads of the arts from the Fabbrica del Duomo to the Novecento Italiano, Gallerie d’Italia – Milan proposes, in collaboration with Palazzo Marino in Music and with the support of Intesa Sanpaolo, a series of three concerts inspired by the exhibition running in the museum in Milan until 16 March 2025.

The three concerts, scheduled to take place on 9, 16 and 23 February in the splendid Sala Alessi at Palazzo Marino, present a musical journey that tells the story of the evolution of music in Milan as a place of contamination, artistic regeneration and base for the creation of new languages, using an artistic language that extends from Renaissance harmonies and musical structures to melodrama.

Marvels! The Maestros of the Sforza Musical Chapel in Leonardo's Milan is the first concert, featuring performances of Renaissance works by composers such as Guillaume Dufay (1397–1474), Gaspar van Weerbeke (1445 –1516), Loyset Compère (1440 –1518), Josquin Desprez (1450–1521).

Milan. A City of Sound is the title of the second concert, featuring the Vagus Quartet, performing works by Franz Joseph Haydn (1732–1809), Alfredo Casella (1883-1947) and Dmitrij Šostakovič (1906–1975).

Melodrama. Mutuak fortune with Milan is the title of the last concert, celebrating Milan as a place in which composers such as Bellini, Verdi, Puccini and Donizetti saw their operas flourish and evolve.
