"The Galleria Borghese. From Raphael to Bernini. The story of a Collection”, an exhibition promoted by Fondazione CRC and Intesa Sanpaolo in the spaces of the Monumental Complex of San Francesco in Cuneo from 22 November 2025 to 29 March 2026. The exhibition project, curated by Francesca Cappelletti and Ettore Giovanati, enjoys the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and has been organised with the support of MondoMostre.
The exhibition brings together several paintings that identify the different “schools of painting” that characterised Italian art during the Renaissance and Baroque periods; the result of the cardinal’s eclectic and omnivorous collecting activity, and above all his critical judgement in choosing works of art, the exhibition focuses on quality and beauty.
Starting with the figure of Scipione Caffarelli Borghese (1577–1633), one of the most significant personalities of the cultural scene in 17th-century Rome, the exhibition narrates the birth of a new idea of collecting: systematic, visionary, capable of pre-empting the tastes and artistic trends of the time.
Through a selection of masterpieces from the Galleria Borghese – rarely exhibited to the public – the exhibition retraces the extraordinary trajectory of a collector who turned his collection into a theatre of beauty and knowledge.
The artists featured include Titian, Jacopo Bassano, Raphael, Battista Dossi, Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Guido Reni.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue published by Allemandi, with scientific contributions by Ettore Giovanati, with the participation of Lucia Calzona and Antonio Iommelli.
Holders of tickets to the exhibition are entitled to discounted admission to the Gallerie d’Italia in Turin, Milan, Vicenza and Naples, until 30 June 2026.
