Galleria Borghese, in collaboration with the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and with the support of Intesa Sanpaolo, presents “Metamorphoses. Ovid and the Arts”, an exhibition curated by Francesca Cappelletti and Frits Scholten, from 23 June to 20 September 2026.
Inspired by Ovid’s Metamorphoses, one of the foundational and most enduring texts in Western culture, the exhibition explores the theme of metamorphosis as a universal principle and as a key to understanding the cosmos, matter and the human condition. From the great masters of the Renaissance and Baroque to artists from more recent centuries, including Correggio, Michelangelo, Titian, Rubens and Poussin, through to Gérôme, Rodin and Brancusi, the exhibition recreates the visual and conceptual power of the stories told by Ovid, which shaped passions, desire, conflicts, violence and redemption.
