As an adolescent he began to take an interest in a number of things which were to remain a key aspect of his life, such as music, mathematics, philosophy, and also Middle Eastern, Far Eastern and African cultures. He studied Business and Economics at Turin University, but quickly abandoned his studies to dedicate himself to art. In January 1967 he presented his first solo exhibition, which saw him become an integral part of the Arte Povera (Poor Art) Movement, which took its name from the original use of different materials such as cement, wood and piping.Alighiero Boetti
